| Statement: |
| This series was inspired by my visit to Les Grotte des Combarelles, a prehistoric cave in southwestern France, which was incised with layers and layers of animal images. The images were so animated and alive I felt that if I touched them I would be able to feel their hearts beat. Michael Ondaatje wrote, “With memory, with the reflection of an echo, a gate opens both ways. We can circle time.” I tried to capture that feeling of bringing a living past into the present. There is no death, only memory. | |
